Save the date for Portland Week 2024

IMG 8602

We had an amazing Portland Week 2023!

Despite the weather throwing a few spanners in the works towards the end of the week, we had a brilliant time and it was great to see so many people come down and get involved in all the activities going on!

Huge thanks to everyone who helped us make the festival such a great success from our sponsors to the fantastic Clean Jurassic Coast ambassador team and everyone in between. Collectively we removed 172.5kg of rubbish off Chesil Beach including 724 bottle tops and over 200 shotgun shells. Waterhaul helped 43 people build litter pickers and we raised over £1k for Clean Jurassic Coast to continue cleaning beaches along our UNESCO World Heritage coastline. See Portland Week 2023 in numbers below to find out more about the impact of the festival on our local and boatfolk communities.

proudly supporting

Clean Jurassic Coast

Beach clean warrior Roy Beal founded Clean Jurassic Coast at the beginning of 2020 as a way to bring individual beach cleaners together and to create a community that could together cover more area and have a bigger voice. Roy and his growing team of volunteers are tireless and passionate about keeping our stunning coastline free from plastic pollution and clean and safe now and for future generations.

In 2021, Roy completed his epic solo paddle trip from John O'Groats to Lands End in his wooden sea kayak 'Just Add Water' whilst litter picking and beach cleaning along his 963 mile route and fundraising for Keep Britain Tidy and Plan B Charity.

We're proud to support Roy and his team, from raising awareness and funds at Portland Week, partnering on beach cleans with our local students and sourcing an engine for Clean Jurassic Coast's beach clean boat 'Sea-Rex'. We hope you'll join us in supporting them too!

School and Youth Group Project

Get involved in Plastic Shores!

We need your help!

We're looking for groups of young people to join us during the summer term on a mission to clean up our beaches, log the data and create a visual impact for Portland Week 2023.

The project encompasses elements of geography, art and science to create sculptures from recovered beach plastic to be installed on the marina site during the Portland Week and B-Side Bangs festivals in August and September. Groups will be invited to join in with the Portland Marina World Oceans Day workshop and, during the autumn and winter terms, to come for a beach school day with Clean Jurassic Coast on their floating classroom based at the marina.

To get involved, download the project proposal below and email beew@boatfolk.co.uk for a project pack!
