Our boatfolk at Portland Marina
Never seen out of shorts even in winter, ‘Swain Dawg’ can be found getting stuck into everything in the marina, even paperwork (sometimes!). We’re lucky to have such an enthusiastic and energetic skipper at the helm!
Assistant Berthing Manager
Bee joined us in summer 2018, arriving in her Contessa 26. Now a land-based Portland resident, Bee comes equipped with a calm and friendly manner. When she’s not sailing, she can be found half-way up (or down) a cliff.
Berthing Administrator and Office Manager
Nicky is the wonder woman who keeps the office and the team in order. Calm, cool and collected, nothing is out of place on Nicky’s watch and she’ll always find a happy solution to every problem.
Senior Berthing Master
Ex-Army Joe’s mechanical and engineering skills are put to work keeping the marina operating safely, but he hasn’t quite got us to military standards yet! When he’s not out paddle boarding or enjoying family life, Joe bakes the best cakes.
Boat Care Manager
Lee’s job is to get the yard shipshape and Bristol fashion and running like a clipper ship in a blow. Appropriate given his area of expertise is traditional boat building and he has built and restored several wooden boats.
Boat Yard Supervisor
Always smiling and often dancing, Jack can be found keeping a close eye on your boat in the yard and manning the hoist. He’s in charge of Christmas and his goal is to get the team to a karaoke bar.
Boat Care Supervisor
Jack (known as Keano because we can’t cope with two Jack’s!) is only a nipper, but he’s got more sea miles than most of us. An RYA Yachtmaster Ocean at 20, he’s the chap to speak to for voyaging advice!
Boat Care/Yard Coordinator
Affectionately known as Lady Chatts, Vicky has been at Portland since day one. Originally in the finance department, her attention to detail keeps the yard team in order and the lifting schedule running like clockwork.
In a previous life, Haydn was a movie star, now he keeps us all laughing with his quick wit and dodgy jokes. He knows a thing or two about sailing and teaches with Quality Time Training in his spare time.
The newest member of the team, Liz moved to Portland during the summer of 2019 for a change of scenery and career. She has boundless enthusiasm and a welcoming smile for everyone as she effortlessly organises the marina reception.
