Practice your boat handling skills

Berth Holder boat handling sessions – practical and theory

Seasoned sailor or complete beginner, learn new skills or brush up your knowledge, whilst making friends.

Wednesday 15th June 2022

Deacons Marina

Open to all Deacons berth holders, a relaxed, no-pressure morning session delivered by Mendez Marine Sea School on site, from the comfort of their rib. Their fantastic instructors are friendly, calm and will have you all parking like a pro in no time!

Seasoned sailor or beginner, learn new skills or brush up on current knowledge, whilst making friends and enjoying a bite to eat. Emphasis will be placed on interpreting the Bursledon Tidal Curve for the easiest times to approach and depart your berth, ferry gliding and general close quarters boat handling skills.

Commencing in the morning with coffee and pastries, we start with some theory on interpreting the Bursledon tidal curve for slack water times - when the tidal flow stops and it is easiest to move. We will then progress to the water for the practical looking at ferry gliding and basic principles of close quarters boat handling in tide and gusts.

A lunch of yummy quiche and sausage rolls (cooked by Manda of Alexanda's Bistro on site) will be provided.

Lifejackets must be worn in the rib and masks as required. At present we have small numbers only in the rib - so you get plenty of hands on practice, several hours!

So give it a go and come and join us for a fun training session afloat. Please call the marina office to book a place on 02380 402253.
