Arriving by boat?

Directions by sea

Enter the Hamble river, keeping a listening watch on VHF Ch 68 'Hamble Harbour Radio'. The Hamble can be very busy with a wide variety of vessels, so please keep a good watch. Look out for boats exiting the marinas across the channel. You can sail in the river, but your engine must be instantly available and sails ready to be lowered should the fairway become busy. The speed limit is 6 knots.

Beware tidal currents in the river, these can run at 3 knots. Take extra care when crossing the current or leaving and departing your berth. Please arrange your arrival and departure for slack water, we recommend Easytide Bursledon for a tidal curve which allows you to clearly see the slack periods. Please note that Bursledon has a double high tide, with a second high tide approximately two hours after the first. The second high tide is slightly lower than the first.
