Ben

General Manager (Haslar & Deacons)

Ben has been managing Haslar Marina with a smile for the last 22 years and has now been promoted to General Manager of both Haslar and Deacons Marinas. This new role will see Ben take overall responsibility for ensuring that all boatfolk activities at Haslar continue to grow and thrive, whilst also overseeing the Deacons Marina berthing operation utilising his huge amount of experience in managing a successful marina. We are thrilled to have Ben join our team in this new role and he is very keen to meet you as he starts to split his time working from both sites.

Julie

Assistant Marina Manager

Julie worked with boatfolk at Haslar Marina during 2019 as a Marina Assistant, and then heroically answered the call of the NHS to go back into nursing at the start of the pandemic - to the intensive care unit at QA Hospital.  She then rejoined Haslar as a Berthing Master in 2022 before deciding to shake things up a bit and join Deacons as our Berthing Master in 2023. We are now thrilled to have her stepping up as our Assistant Marina Manager

Julie and her husband, Dave, love sailing their classic yacht, Ceilidh Mhor (Celtic for "dance of the sea").

Richard

Senior Berthing Master

Richard has three passions, travel, curry and Westerly’s - and not necessarily in that order as anyone who’s met him knows. He’s a fab multi-tasker and the first to help anyone who asks, one-minute sanding a keel stub, the next showing a new customer the ropes on site. When not on the water, Richard loves to travel and his been all around the globe – including a fantastic trip afloat from Cardiff to Norway during 2018. He’s a great cook and has a sweet tooth (chocolate gratefully accepted), but he’s not shy to use the old ‘ping & ding’ at work either. With a musical ear and previous experience in IT Richard is basically a multi-talented individual who is worth his weight in gold!

Nick

Divisional Boatcare Manager

The most commonly heard phrase to Nick is “Can you just…” Nick heads up Boat Care, not just at Deacons but across all our South Coast marinas and he is a man in demand. With his considerable ingenuity and skill there is nothing he can’t fix. When he’s not at work, he can be found enjoying a beer, tuning the engines aboard his motorboat – often with a little assistance from one of his daughters!

David

Boatcare Manager

With a lifetime on the water and having previously worked with Seaward and Crabber Yachts, David has an in-depth knowledge of boat design and build. Cool as a cucumber, he whittles through the workload and looks forward to discussing any projects you may have, large or small. A keen racer, David can be found aboard on The Solent throughout the summer – that’s when he’s not acting groom for his partners horses at an event!

Andrew

Boatcare Service Coordinator

Crikey, there can’t be many who’ve been within a mile of a 12 km glacier…?!

Andrew has spent a lifetime on the water, all around the world on a variety of vessels, holding positions from the New Zealand Navy to building the confidence of youth through sail training on the water – must have been inspirational training too, because one such youth just turned up in Deacons with his 5.5m yacht and a project to sail the UK, undertaking community beach cleans enroute! With his enormous maritime knowledge, attention to detail and calm, friendly demeanour, Andrew is perfectly placed to help our customers. Super-efficient Andrew handles the lift diary and keeps us all abreast of what boat repairs we should be working on next – so if you need to squeeze in a quick lift, he’s the man to talk to!

When not at work, Andrew can be found watching the rugby (anyone see the England/NZ game!) and…well… afloat!

Sam

Yard Operative

Our ace painter Sam is responsible for all the fantastic copper coat jobs that leave our yard – they look beautiful further to his careful attention. A creative guy and with green fingers, when not at work he can be found tending his garden and allotment, heading downhill on his mountain bike, or walking his beautiful collie dog “Flo” – who occasionally hitches a ride in the telehandler.

Deano

GRP specialist

Deano's talent speaks for itself - you can see your own reflection in the boats he’s worked on! Undertaking jobs from a cut and polish, to the complete repair of vessels which have undergone serious impact, they have been mistaken for new after his careful ministrations. He enjoys a beer, loves nothing better than a BBQ out camping and takes a keen interest in the fish locally.
