Mental Health Awareness Week 2022

Honest Conversations

The 9th of May marks the start of Mental Health Awareness Week 2022. The theme for this year is loneliness, focusing on how coming together can help people take a positive step towards tackling negative mental health. However, the truth is that currently the stigma surrounding mental health can make it hard for some people to open up about their experiences making them feel isolated.

We don't think that mental health should be a taboo subject. In fact, quite the opposite. That's why last year we launched our limited podcast series honest conversations speaking to members of the boatfolk community to shine a light on mental health. They opened up about their own ups, downs and steps towards positive mental wellbeing. We welcomed guests including Alex Sergison from Adventure4All, open water swimmer Ben Hooper, Abbie Barnes from Spend More Time in the Wild, Tom and Matt of Frontline Coffee, and record breaking young sailor Timothy Long.

In light of the theme of loneliness there is no better time to revisit the importance of having these honest conversations. If you'd like to listen to the episodes you can find them below.

If you're struggling with your mental health please don't hesitate to reach out to someone, whether this be friends, family or a healthcare professional.
