Every boat takes on a little bit of water from time-to-time; whether from rain, spray, or small leaks! That's where your bilge pump comes in.
This unsung hero quietly keeps your bilge clear and your boat safer. But like any piece of equipment, it only works if it’s cared for.
A bilge pump isn’t something to “set and forget.” A quick routine check can make all the difference:
Test it often. Run the pump manually and make sure the float switch activates properly.
Look over the wiring. Corrosion or loose connections can stop a pump in its tracks.
Keep it clean. Debris, oil, and even stray zip ties in the bilge can clog the intake.
Check the hose. Ensure discharge lines are free of kinks and cracks.
Remember, a bilge pump isn’t meant to keep a sinking boat afloat—it’s designed to handle the everyday water that finds its way onboard. A few minutes of care before you head out can prevent costly problems later and give you peace of mind while on the water.
