boatfolk joins forces with Timothy Long

United by a mission to get young people on the water

We're excited to announce that we have joined forces with Timothy Long! At just 15, Tim became the youngest person ever to sail solo around Britain in 2020.

Tim spent the summer of last year on a 1,600 nautical mile anti-clockwise voyage around the British coast, having set out from Hamble, Southampton on 16 July 2020.  Aged 15, Tim broke the record of Tom Webb as the youngest person to sail solo around Britain. Webb was aged 17 when he completed the epic feat in 2011.

If you followed Tim’s journey you will know that he stopped off at some of our boatfolk marinas along the way. Thanks to the many friendly welcomes Tim received, he saw for himself that our marinas are more than just somewhere to keep your boat. They are a community where anyone can get involved, whether you own a boat or not. Tim is now an integral part of our community at Haslar Marina, and we look forward to spending a lot more time with Tim and his Hunter Impala, Alchemy in the coming season.

We’re passionate about welcoming young people, just like Tim, into our boating community. That's why we’re supporting Tim in achieving his boating dreams, as well as working with him to inspire the next generation of boaters. Together with Tim we hope to encourage more young people to discover the amazing experiences that can be had in the water, as well as the great sense of freedom it brings.

As well as supporting Tim’s journey, we’ve also been working with him on some exciting ideas to encourage youngsters to get afloat. We look forward to sharing these ideas over the coming months, both with our boatfolk community and beyond.
