Meet Jay the Cat

Bangor Marina’s Feline Freeloader

If you’ve spent any time at Bangor Marina, chances are you’ve met our unofficial mascot and full-time nap enthusiast: Jay the Cat.

Now, let’s clear something up—Jay doesn’t actually belong to the marina.

He’s not on payroll, doesn’t have a uniform, and has never once turned up for a team meeting.

But that hasn’t stopped him from making the pontoons his personal kingdom.

Jay is what you might call a “freelance companion.”

He roams the berths like he owns the place, hops aboard boats without invitation, and has a real talent for finding the warmest, coziest corners to curl up in—engine bays, sail bags, even the odd pile of freshly laundered clothes.

Over the years, Jay has also clocked up a surprising number of unintentional sea miles.

More than one skipper has found themselves halfway across Belfast Lough before discovering a pair of sleepy green eyes blinking up at them from the cuddy.

Safe to say, Jay isn’t one to suffer from seasickness.

So if you're heading out for a cruise, or just locking up for the night, please do a quick "Jay check" before you cast off or zip up.

He’s quiet, stealthy, and frankly too good at stowing away.

We like to think of him as our four-legged harbourmaster-in-training.

He’s got no paperwork, paid no berthing fee, and certainly no shame, but we wouldn’t have it any other way.

Give him a scratch behind the ears if you see him.

Just don’t leave your cabin door open unless you're prepared for company.
